Micky Ward

Micky Ward, aka “Irish,” is widely known as the protagonist played by Mark Wahlberg in the 2010 feature film The Fighter based on his career and for his trilogy of fights against Arturo Gatti. Ward turned pro in 1985 but took a hiatus from boxing in 1990 after losing four consecutive fights. With the help of his half-brother, former boxer and drug addict Dicky Eklund, Micky returned to boxing with great success. A native of Lowell, Massachusetts, he is part owner of and runs a gym with Dicky who helps train new boxers. The Irish-American junior welterweight professional boxer is now retired and lives with his family in his hometown.
