Fall Down Laughing
by David L. Lander
In 1978, David "Squiggy" Lander, the star of the hit sitcom Laverne & Shirley, agreed to make a celebrity appearance for a Multiple Sclerosis fundraiser in upstate New York. Knowing next to nothing about the disease, he asked the telethon director, "Why would anyone give money to MS if they already gave to Jerry's kids?"
"Anyone can get MS," the director replied. Little did Lander know how prophetic this conversation would be. Fall Down Laughing: How Squiggy Caught Multiple Sclerosis and Didn't Tell Nobody is the often poignant, always humorous account of Lander's courageous struggle with MS, from his desperate search for a cure to his 16 years of silence on his affliction to his decision to go public with his illness.
