Tommy Chong is fondly remembered as a pop artifact from a time when the relatively young drug culture was viewed in a more benevolent light. After two years of working together in a Toronto-based improv group, Thomas 'Tommy' Chong, who is of Chinese, Scottish, Irish and Canadian descent, collaborated with the Los Angeles-born Mexican-American Richard 'Cheech' Marin in 1969 to create a comic sensation. While both comics exploited and lampooned stereotypes associated with their ethnicity to varying degrees (Cheech more, Chong less), their overriding concern was the acquisition and consumption of superior marijuana. Vulgar, lowbrow, but quite funny, Cheech and Chong were a classic comedy team on drugs.
Tommy can be seen on the FOX hit That 70’s Show or touring the country with his wife and comedy partner, Shelby. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller The I Chong: Meditations from the Joint.

The I Chong: Meditations from the Joint
by Tommy Chong
It's a scene surreal enough to come straight out of one of Cheech and Chong's own movies: Through a bizarre bureaucratic bungle, an amiable stoner just trying to grow old gracefully is accused of supporting terrorism and is hauled off to jail. But the events of February 24, 2003 are all true and delineated in Tommy's prison diaries. At 5.30 a.m., agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration kicked in the door of Tommy Chong's California home with automatic weapons drawn, and asked if he had any marijuana in the house. His answer? "Of course, I have marijuana in the house - I'm Tommy Chong."
Tommy Chong's incarceration drew widespread condemnation from public figures including Jay Leno and Jon Stewart, and has, ironically, made him more popular than ever. This book consists of Tommy's prison diaries, which reveal how his outlook on life and his unique point of view helped him survive and emerge determined to make a stand.
